Barquilla Aqueduct

The Barquilla Aqueduct, built between 1753 and 1757, is part of the first works on the Campos Branch of the Castile Canal and addresses the need to maintain the canal’s continuity over natural watercourses. Located in the municipality of Becerril de Campos (Palencia), at kilometer 92.717, its function is to allow the Barquilla stream to pass under the canal, ensuring flow control and the stability of the infrastructure.

The structure consists of a single semicircular arch, with a span of approximately 3.65 meters and a height of about 1.45 meters. Beneath the channel, the arch divides in two, a construction solution that reinforces the flow of water and the overall stability. The aqueduct is approximately 5.55 meters long, with a width of about 29 meters and a total height of 5.55 meters. It is built entirely of limestone masonry and is complemented by stone parapets and abutments that channel the stream and protect the structure.
