Barrio de San Vicente

Barrio de San Vicente is a small village where the landscape and history unfold at a leisurely pace. A hamlet belonging to Alar del Rey, this place was known for centuries as Puebla de San Vicente or Ventas de Becerril, names that evoke its role as a crossroads and a place of refuge.

Located next to the old road that connected Palencia with Santander, the hamlet unfolds on a gently oriented hillside towards the fertile plain of the Pisuerga River.

The main heritage landmark is the church of San Vicente, a sober Romanesque temple built between the 12th and 13th centuries.

The proximity to the Canal de Castilla and the Pisuerga valley placed San Vicente within a historic axis of communications and transport in the north of the province.
