Becerril de Campos is located in Tierra de Campos, in a flat, fertile area where settlement dates back to the Bronze Age. The site was already occupied during the Vaccaean and Roman periods, as evidenced by archaeological remains and the proximity of a Roman road. The present-day town was repopulated in the 9th century and achieved particular importance during the Middle Ages, maintaining its status as a royal demesne for centuries, a circumstance that explains its remarkable urban and social development.

In the 19th century, Becerril de Campos experienced a period of remarkable prosperity, evident in its urban layout, with traditional arcades, cobbled streets and civil buildings, such as the historicist Town Hall building, whose facade is covered with moralistic maxims.

The monumental heritage of Becerril de Campos is particularly noteworthy. The town once boasted seven churches, several of which remain today and are of great artistic interest. Currently, the Church of Santa María houses one of the five branches of the Campos Territorial Museum of the Renaissance, with Alejo de Vahía as its central figure. Another of these churches has been transformed into the San Pedro Cultural Center, a hub for astronomy and scientific outreach.

The Canal de Castilla runs alongside the town and was key to the transport of grain and other agricultural products, becoming an integral part of daily life in the municipality. Becerril also maintains a deep-rooted agricultural and winemaking tradition, closely linked to the landscape of the Laguna de la Nava.
