The Berrocal Aqueduct is a work of the Southern Branch of the Castile Canal located in the municipality of Valladolid, at kilometer 138.580. Built between 1831 and 1836, it responds to the need to maintain the continuity of the canal over the Berrocal stream, resolving the crossing with a solid, clear solution that is fully integrated into the landscape.
The structure consists of a single semicircular arch, with a span of approximately 4.70 meters and a height of nearly 2.70 meters. The entire structure reaches a length of about 6.50 meters, a width of approximately 25 meters, and a total height of 12.40 meters. It is constructed entirely of limestone ashlar, a material characteristic of the Canal de Castilla due to its strength and durability. The projecting wing walls, located at both the entrance and exit, retain the slopes and channel the water, while the parapets and the wing walls themselves reinforce the stability and visual impact of the structure. The aqueduct is in fair condition and retains all of its original hydraulic works, which are protected in their entirety due to their heritage value.
For the visitor, the Berrocal Aqueduct offers a quiet and educational stop on the canal route, ideal for understanding how these discreet works sustained the continuous operation of the Castile Canal and enjoying the harmony between historical engineering and open landscape.
