The Cabañas Bridge is one of the infrastructures of the Northern Branch of the Castile Canal located in the municipality of Osorno la Mayor (Palencia), at kilometer 41.619. Built between 1759 and 1804, it is part of the set of works associated with the construction of the canal and responds to the need to guarantee the continuity of the traditional roads over this great hydraulic waterway, integrating local traffic into a territorial scale project.
The bridge spans the canal with a segmental arch, an effective solution that provides stability and a balanced silhouette. The arch is 14.20 meters long and 5.20 meters high, while the entire structure has a total length of 32.30 meters, a width of 4.55 meters, and a maximum height of 7.10 meters. The design is completed with a plain impost and stone parapets with a slightly pointed profile. The roadway is paved, and walkways beneath the arch facilitate maintenance and allow for better appreciation of the structure. The entire structure is built of limestone ashlar, a material that enhances its strength and integrates it seamlessly into the landscape.
