The Capillas Bridge complex, built between 1842 and 1849, is located on the Campos Branch of the Castile Canal, at kilometer 130.700, within the municipality of Capillas (Palencia). Its main function is to ensure the continuity of the Villarramiel-Ampudia road over the canal, integrating road traffic into a hydraulic infrastructure designed to organize the territory and facilitate mobility in the heart of the Tierra de Campos region.
The central element is the bridge itself, designed with a segmental arch spanning 10.10 meters and reaching an approximate height of 4.30 meters. The structure is 26.80 meters long, 4.80 meters wide, and 6.50 meters high. It is built entirely of limestone ashlar, the predominant material in the canal due to its strength and durability. The design is completed with stone parapets and wing walls that protect the structure and visually organize the overall structure. At the base of the arch, stone walkways ensure the continuity of the towpaths, allowing for longitudinal travel alongside the canal, while the upper roadway, now paved, shows later adaptations for its current use.
