The Carracea Aqueduct, built between 1831 and 1836, forms part of the Campos Branch of the Castile Canal and addresses the need to maintain the continuity of the hydraulic route along traditional watercourses and local waterways. Located within the municipality of Fuentes de Nava (Palencia), at kilometer 117.880, its function is to allow the passage of the cart track between Fuentes de Nava and Villalumbroso, as well as a lateral stream, under the canal, effectively resolving the coexistence of water and roads.
The structure consists of a single, low arch, with a span of approximately 2.50 meters and a height of nearly 3.25 meters. The entire structure is about 5 meters long, 25.50 meters wide, and 8.25 meters high. It is built entirely of limestone ashlar and is complemented by stone parapets and wing walls that channel the flow and reinforce the structure’s stability. The simplicity of the design and the precision of its execution reflect the 19th-century technical solutions applied to the Canal de Castilla.
