Carravacas Watchtower

The Carravacas Weir is a hydraulic element of the Northern Branch of the Castile Canal located in the municipality of Frómista (Palencia), at kilometer 62.967. Built between 1759 and 1804, it is part of the great enlightened project that provided Castile with a complex network of infrastructures to regulate water and promote agricultural development.

The water tower, used for irrigation, has a square floor plan, measuring approximately 3 meters in length and width and nearly 3.40 meters in height. It is topped with a hipped roof, protected by a perimeter cornice that collects rainwater and helps preserve the structure. The walls are constructed of limestone ashlar, while the roof consists of a stone slab supported by a brick vault, a robust and common construction method for this type of hydraulic structure.
