The Carreboadilla Weir is a hydraulic element of the Northern Branch of the Castile Canal, located in the municipality of Frómista (Palencia), at kilometer 56.270. Built between 1759 and 1804, it forms part of the grand Enlightenment project that transformed the territory through a complex network of infrastructure designed to regulate water and promote agricultural development. Its function was specific within the canal system, and its simple architecture was conceived to effectively meet irrigation needs.
The structure has a square floor plan and approximate dimensions of 3 meters in length and width, with a height of approximately 3.05 meters. It is topped with a hipped roof, protected by a perimeter cornice that collects rainwater and helps preserve the structure. The walls combine limestone masonry with a pressed brick lining, while the roof consists of a stone slab supported by a pressed brick vault—a strong and durable solution common in this type of hydraulic construction.
The Almenara de Carreboadilla offers an interesting stop on the Canal de Castilla route, allowing you to discover an essential piece of water management, integrated into a quiet rural environment that invites you to understand and enjoy the hydraulic heritage from a slow and close experience.
