The Canal de Castilla Interpretation Centre in Herrera de Pisuerga is one of the key points for understanding this great hydraulic engineering project as a whole. Located next to the canal itself, in a site directly linked to its route, it offers an accessible introduction to the history and operation of this infrastructure that transformed the Castilian territory from the 18th century onwards.
On the A-67 Santander-Palencia motorway, you'll find the turnoff for Herrera de Pisuerga. After passing two roundabouts in the direction of Herrera de Pisuerga, you'll reach the town. Continue straight ahead on the road until you reach a junction, then turn towards Palencia. If you continue along this road, you'll eventually reach the N-611 Palencia-Santander road. At kilometer marker 79, there's a U-turn and a lock. Turn left at this point, and after passing under the lock bridge, the road leads to the Interpretation Center, the Presa del Rey (King's Dam), and the dock for the "Marqués de la Ensenada" boat.
For better organization of your visit, it is recommended to visit the town's website: https://herreradepisuerga.es/turismo/visitas/centro-de-interpretacion-del-canal-de-castilla/
