The Five Eyes Aqueduct is located on the Southern Branch of the Castile Canal, in the municipality of Grijota (Palencia), at kilometer 90.600. Its interest lies in the combination between a modern construction solution and the preservation of vestiges of the previous historical aqueduct, reflecting the functional continuity of the canal and its adaptation to new hydraulic needs.
The structure allows passage under the Valdeginate stream channel, now transformed into a drain or outfall for the La Nava Lagoon. The aqueduct consists of three low arches, with spans of approximately 3.10 meters and a height of nearly 2.40 meters, supported by intermediate piers. The channel bed rests directly on the keystones of the arches, while the side walkways are supported by a blind arcade of semicircular arches, which transfers the load to the extrados of the main arches via extended piers. The entire structure is approximately 19 meters long, with a width of approximately 3 meters and a total height of 7.20 meters. The current structure is made of reinforced concrete, preserving the original limestone masonry at the abutments.
For visitors, the Five Eyes Aqueduct offers a unique perspective on the Castile Canal, where history and technology coexist. Integrated into an open environment, it invites them to understand how the canal has adapted without losing the memory of its original structures.
