Frómista is located in Tierra de Campos, in an open area where the cereal-growing landscape and major historical communication routes have defined its identity. Since the Middle Ages, the town has been a key stop along the French Way of the Camino de Santiago.

The Camino has profoundly shaped its history, its urban layout, and its heritage. Pilgrims from all over Europe have walked these streets for centuries, making the town a key point of welcome and encounter on the Camino de Santiago route.

The Church of Saint Martin of Tours, built in the 11th century, is one of the masterpieces of European Romanesque architecture. The purity of its architecture, the harmony of its proportions, and the sculptural richness of its capitals make this church an essential reference point for medieval art.

Frómista is also closely linked to the Canal de Castilla. Here, the spectacular quadruple lock is preserved, one of the finest examples of the hydraulic works of this great Enlightenment project.

Today, Frómista is a strategic point where the Camino de Santiago meets the Canal de Castilla, forming an almost sacred enclave, in the words of the writer Raúl Guerra Garrido, where faith and reason converge.
