The Fuente Mimbre Aqueduct, built between 1759 and 1804, is part of the network of works on the Northern Branch of the Castile Canal, designed to ensure the continuity of the hydraulic system over natural watercourses. Located in the municipality of Amusco (Palencia), at kilometer 71.400, its main function is to allow passage under the Fuentemimbre stream, efficiently resolving the crossing between the two watercourses without altering the canal’s flow regime.
The structure consists of a single semicircular arch, with a span of approximately 2.60 meters and a height of 1.40 meters, a common construction solution for the smaller works along the canal. The entire structure reaches a length of about 4.35 meters, a width of approximately 29.95 meters, and a maximum height of 7.40 meters. It is built entirely of limestone ashlar, a material that provides strength and durability. The design is completed with a plain impost at the base of the parapets and limestone wing walls, which channel the water and reinforce the aqueduct’s stability.
The aqueduct is in a good state of preservation and maintains all of the original hydraulic work.
