The Fuente Pedro Aqueduct is a hydraulic structure on the Northern Branch of the Castile Canal, located in the municipality of Osorno la Mayor (Palencia), at kilometer 42.079. Built between 1759 and 1804, it is part of the grand Enlightenment project that provided the region with infrastructure designed to improve water management and the integration of the agricultural landscape. Its significance lies in the clarity of its function and the simplicity of its design, representative of the canal’s engineering style.
The structure allows passage under the Fuente Pedro stream channel, also known as Valdepuercos or Carrecarrión. It consists of a single semicircular arch, with an approximate span of 5.40 meters and a height of 2.20 meters, complemented by flared wing walls that facilitate water channeling. The structure reaches approximately 9.90 meters in length, with maximum dimensions of 25.60 meters in width and 6.80 meters in height. It is built entirely of limestone ashlar, a durable material that reinforces its solidity and its integration into the surrounding environment.
The Fuente Pedro Aqueduct offers an interesting stop on the Canal de Castilla route, where you can enjoy a peaceful landscape and understand how these discreet but essential works made possible one of the great historical infrastructures of Castile.
