On the banks of the Pisuerga River, in a natural space where water and paths meet, Herrera de Pisuerga preserves the memory of those who inhabited it before.

In Roman times, Pisoraca was established here, a camp of the Legio IV Macedonica and the origin of a presence that organized the territory and its communications. Centuries later, the medieval town inherited this strategic importance, growing protected by walls and consolidating itself as an urban center in the north of the province.

Herrera boasts an architecture that reflects its continuous past: historic doorways, noble houses, and buildings that speak of civil and religious power. The Church of Santa Ana, with its sturdy tower, forms the heart of the town and houses works that have accompanied the lives and devotion of generations.

The Canal de Castilla left a deep mark here through its network of locks, bridges, factories, mills, fulling mills, and houses, and the spectacular San Andrés dam, where the canal meets the Pisuerga River. Water has shaped the identity of Herrera, an age-old relationship that lives on in the crab tradition and its festival.
