Las Cabañas de Castilla, in the heart of Tierra de Campos, is first documented in the 12th century under the name Cabannis. This toponym could be related to the Latin cannabae, civilian settlements that arose in the vicinity of Roman camps, a hypothesis that points to an early occupation of the territory.
In later centuries, the town was linked to different noble lineages, and from its medieval past a fortified tower from the 15th century, belonging to the Castañeda lordship, remains as evidence of the lordly control of the territory.
In modern times, the Canal de Castilla, and later the railway, reinforced the importance of Las Cabañas de Castilla as a strategic enclave in communications, integrating it into the great historical infrastructures that structured the Meseta.
