The heritage complex of Lock 6 in Campos, built between 1842 and 1849, is located in the municipality of Tamariz de Campos (Valladolid), at kilometer 144.300 of the Campos Branch of the Castile Canal. This site represents one of the last locks on the canal and exemplifies a phase of full technical maturity, in which hydraulic regulation, navigation, and water energy production are integrated into a single territorial solution. The overall function of the complex was to overcome the canal’s difference in elevation, control water flow, and facilitate industrial uses associated with the head created by the lock.
Several elements associated with the lock complete the functional understanding of the complex. The lock and diversion bridge stands out, constructed of limestone ashlar with segmental arches—two main and one smaller—ensuring road continuity and exhibiting a good state of preservation. Next to it is the old flour mill, aligned parallel to the canal, consisting of two modules that housed a warehouse, living quarters, and machinery. Built with masonry, brick, rammed earth, and a wooden frame, it is now in ruins, but retains significant remains of its structure and facades, protected for environmental reasons, bearing witness to the canal’s industrial use.
The site can be accessed via the network of rural roads from Tamariz or Villanueva de San Mancio. The easiest access is from the P-913 road, just outside Belmonte de Campos in the direction of Castil de Vela. After crossing the Aguijón River, there is a road on the left that forks; taking the left fork again, and after a 1.8 km walk, you will reach the site.
