Naveros de Pisuerga

Naveros de Pisuerga is a hamlet of Herrera de Pisuerga, located on the banks of the Canal de Castilla, next to its thirteenth lock, in a rural environment linked to the Pisuerga river valley.

The town’s origins date back to at least the 9th century, confirming an early and continuous occupation. Throughout its history, Naveros has also endured difficult periods, such as the fire of 1813, started by French troops, which significantly damaged the town’s main houses.

Dominating the village from the top of a hill, stands the church of San Martín Obispo, a building of complex structure, the result of different construction phases initiated in the Romanesque period, which reflect the historical evolution of the place.

Today, Naveros de Pisuerga is explained through the Pisuerga River and the Canal de Castilla, whose waters have marked the place, the landscape and the daily history of the town.
