Paredes de Nava, in the heart of Tierra de Campos, was for centuries one of the most populated towns in the province, even competing in importance with the capital itself.

Settlement in the area dates back to prehistoric times and became established during the Vaccaean and Roman periods, when an important city, identified by some researchers as Intercatia, existed nearby. During the Middle Ages, the town experienced a period of prosperity, first as a royal town and later as a county, linked to the Manrique lineage.

The monumental heritage of Paredes de Nava is simply exceptional. The cathedral-sized Church of Santa Eulalia is one of the venues of the Campos del Renacimiento Territorial Museum, which boasts an extraordinarily important collection, with Pedro Berruguete as its leading artist. In addition, there are other historic churches, as well as convents, hospitals, and hermitages, all of which bear witness to the town’s rich history.

The ensemble is completed by a large historic hamlet, arcaded squares and houses with coats of arms, which shape the urban identity of the town.

Paredes de Nava boasts a dynamic cultural life, which is evident in spaces such as the Jorge Manrique Performing Arts Center or the Museum of Tales and Science.

The Canal de Castilla played a fundamental role in the local economy. Sahagún el Real, an old town associated with the canal, developed in its vicinity and served as one of the main grain loading points in Tierra de Campos, connecting Paredes de Nava with the trade routes of the Meseta Central.
