The Requena Aqueduct is a hydraulic work of the Northern Branch of the Canal de Castilla located in the municipality of Requena de Campos (Palencia), at kilometer 47.960, within the section between lock 15 and lock 16. Built between 1759 and 1804, it is part of the ambitious enlightened project that provided Castile with a key infrastructure for water management and the development of the territory.
The structure extends the canal over the Juan Toribio stream by means of a single semicircular arch, with an approximate span of 3.35 meters and a height of 1.60 meters. The entire structure is approximately 3.50 meters long, with maximum dimensions of 28 meters in width and 3.90 meters in height. It is built entirely of limestone ashlar, a material that provides strength and durability. The design is completed with a cornice at the base of the parapets and tightly angled stone abutments, which help to channel the water and reinforce the structure’s stability.
