Ruins

These ruins are part of the Campos branch of the Castile Canal and correspond to a building erected during the canal’s construction period, between 1753 and 1757. Although the original building has disappeared, its presence remains significant as evidence of the network of auxiliary structures that accompanied the canal and made its daily operation possible. It is a discreet yet revealing element that allows us to understand the territorial and human dimension of this great Enlightenment hydraulic engineering project.

The building was constructed with adobe walls, reinforced with brickwork at corners and openings, a traditional technique widely used in the vernacular architecture of the time. These simple and readily available materials reflect the building’s functional character and its adaptation to the surrounding environment. Currently, no structures remain standing, but the outline of the building is still recognizable, allowing its original placement within the canal landscape to be identified.
