The Carrecalzada dock is the starting point for the “San Carlos de Abánades” boat tours. From this location, connected to the Carrecalzada Hotel and Restaurant, the canal regains its navigable and educational character, allowing visitors to directly experience this historic infrastructure. The boat returned to the canal’s waters during Easter Week in 2017, reinforcing the dock’s role as an active space within the heritage site.
The “San Carlos de Abánades” offers approximately 60-minute trips, departing from Carrecalzada, 2 kilometers from Melgar de Fernamental. During the journey, a stop is made at the Abánades Aqueduct, a remarkable feat of engineering that allows passengers to appreciate the technical and structural complexity of the canal. Trips run on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays during peak season, and on Saturdays during the off-season, always at 5:00 PM.
Beyond its tourist appeal, the boat trip offers a leisurely exploration of the canal, where navigation becomes a way to interpret the hydraulic heritage from the waterway itself. The dock and the “San Carlos de Abánades” thus become essential elements for experiencing the Canal de Castilla, combining enjoyment of the surroundings, historical dissemination, and the appreciation of a unique legacy.
