Tamariz de Campos is located in the heart of Tierra de Campos, in a flat area crossed by the Sequillo River and one of the major historical axes of landscape transformation: the Canal de Castilla. Furthermore, the town is linked to the Camino de Santiago de Madrid, which reinforces its historical character as a transit point.

Tamariz’s monumental heritage reflects this long history. Highlights include the Church of San Pedro, with its Romanesque portal, the Church of San Juan Bautista, and the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora del Castillo, the town’s patron saint. The medieval Lara Palace completes the ensemble, along with excellent examples of traditional Tierra de Campos architecture.

The Canal de Castilla forms an essential part of the historical landscape of Tamariz de Campos. Within its municipal boundaries, two canal complexes of great interest are preserved: lock number 6 of the Campos branch and lock number 7, along with flour mills, lockkeepers’ houses, and warehouses, which demonstrate the intense activity linked to grain transport that took place in the town.
