The Ucieza Aqueduct is one of the most significant hydraulic works of the Northern Branch of the Canal de Castilla, located in the municipality of Frómista (Palencia), at kilometer 60.320. Built between 1759 and 1804, it is part of the great enlightened project that sought to connect the territory through an infrastructure capable of regulating water and promoting the economic and agricultural development of the region.
The aqueduct’s function is to provide continuity to the canal over the Ucieza River, resolving the crossing with a structure of three semicircular arches. These arches, with an approximate span of 6.60 meters and a height of 2.80 meters, rest on intermediate piers that provide stability to the structure. The aqueduct reaches a total length of approximately 26.60 meters, a width of 29.50 meters, and a maximum height of nearly 8.80 meters. The design is completed with a plain impost at the base of the parapets and long stone wing walls that channel the water and reinforce the structural integrity. The entire aqueduct is constructed of limestone ashlar, a material characteristic of the Canal de Castilla due to its strength and durability.
