The Valdeginate Aqueduct, built between 1842 and 1849, is part of the Canal de Castilla infrastructure designed to ensure the continuity of the canal’s route over significant watercourses. Located in the municipality of Abarca (Palencia), at kilometer 123.300, its function is to allow the canal to cross the Valdeginate stream, resolving the crossing with a solid and durable solution that guarantees the stability of the entire structure.
The structure comprises three segmental arches, meaning low arches that reduce the height without compromising structural integrity. These arches, with an approximate span of 6.20 meters and a height of nearly 3.20 meters, rest on intermediate piers that project in a semicircle from the walls, visually and structurally reinforcing the structure. The aqueduct is approximately 23 meters long, 22 meters wide, and 8.10 meters high. It is constructed entirely of limestone masonry and is complemented by stone parapets and wing walls that extend to protect the slope. The towpaths run separately from the channel, separated by a concrete border, a later addition.
