The Vallarna Aqueduct is one of the hydraulic works that form part of the route of the Northern Branch of the Castile Canal, in the municipality of Osorno la Mayor (Palencia), at kilometer 39.600. Built between 1759 and 1804, it is part of the great enlightened project that sought to connect the territory through an infrastructure intended for the transport and use of water, today recognized as an outstanding historical and cultural legacy.
Its main function is to allow the Vallarna stream to pass under the canal, effectively resolving the crossing between the two watercourses. The structure is organized into three semicircular arches supported by intermediate piers, a construction solution characteristic of the engineering of the period. The work is built entirely of limestone ashlar, a material also present in the wing walls, parapets, and the impost located at their base. The structure reaches an approximate length of 19.30 meters, with maximum dimensions of 25.80 meters in width and 6.50 meters in height, presenting a solid and balanced appearance. The aqueduct maintains the integrity of the original hydraulic work, which enjoys full protection due to its high heritage value.
