The Villalón Bridge is one of the road infrastructures of the Campos Branch of the Castile Canal, built between 1842 and 1849 to ensure the crossing of local roads over the canal without interrupting its hydraulic function. It is located within the municipality of Medina de Rioseco (Valladolid), at kilometer 151.300, in an open, agricultural setting that clearly demonstrates the integration of public works with the landscape.
The structure is resolved by means of a segmental arch, a low arch characteristic of 19th-century engineering, with an approximate span of 11 meters and a height of nearly 3.55 meters. The entire structure reaches a length of approximately 12.10 meters, a width of 5.45 meters, and a total height of 5.75 meters. It is built entirely of limestone ashlar, the predominant material in the canal due to its strength and durability. The composition is completed with stone parapets and wing walls that protect the structure and regulate traffic. At the base of the arch, stone walkways allow for the continuity of the towpaths on both sides of the canal, facilitating longitudinal travel alongside the water.
