Villanueva de San Mancio, on the banks of the Sequillo River in Tierra de Campos, has been documented since the 11th century. For centuries it belonged to the monastery of Sahagún, one of the great centers of monastic power in the northern Iberian Peninsula.

The church of Santa María de Mediavilla was built in the 16th century on the site of an old Benedictine convent and features a unique octagonal bell tower.

The Humilladero chapel refers to popular religiosity, while the traditional architecture expresses Villanueva de San Mancio’s deep roots in rural ways of life.

The territory is also crossed by the Camino de Santiago de Madrid, which in this section coincides with the route of the Canal de Castilla, reinforcing the reading of the place as a historical space of transit and communication.
