The Carrecalzada Aqueduct, built between 1759 and 1804, is one of the small but essential hydraulic works that ensure the continuity of the Canal de Castilla in its northern section. Its function is to allow the Quintanilla stream to pass under the canal without interfering with the water flow, thus resolving one of the numerous points where natural watercourses meet the artificial infrastructure. The structure consists of a single semicircular arch, 2.30 meters long and 1.30 meters high, supporting a structure 3.60 meters long, 2.70 meters wide, and 4.40 meters high in total. Constructed entirely of limestone ashlar, it stands out for the precision of its construction and the simplicity of its design, characteristic of Enlightenment engineering. Although the parapet is missing, its overall condition is good, and it retains all of the original structure, reinforcing its heritage value as direct evidence of the canal’s internal workings.
The integration between stone, water and landscape allows us to understand how even the most discreet infrastructure played an essential role in the continuity of the canal.
