The Rosalejo Pond is located in the province of Palencia, within the Tierra de Campos region, in the vicinity of the towns of Capillas and Castil de Vela, and associated with the route of the Campos Branch of the Castile Canal.

Its origin is directly linked to the construction and operation of the Castile Canal between the 18th and 19th centuries. The excavation of the canal bed and its barrier effect modified the natural drainage of the land, favoring the accumulation of water in certain areas and giving rise to the formation of pools that, over time, became naturalized.

The Rosalejo Pond features a seasonal water level, with significant variations throughout the year depending on the canal’s water flow and climatic conditions. Its banks are covered with marsh vegetation, which contributes to environmental diversity and provides refuge for various species associated with wetlands, in an area dominated by dryland cereal farming.
For the visitor, the Rosalejo Pond is a significant stop on the walking or cycling routes along the towpaths of the Canal de Castilla, offering a clear reading of the canal as an ecological corridor and as a transformative element of the Tierra de Campos landscape.
