The Riosequillo Aqueduct, built between 1842 and 1849, is part of the Canal de Castilla infrastructure designed to ensure the continuity of the canal’s route over larger watercourses. Located in the municipality of Tamariz de Campos (Valladolid), at kilometer 144.930, its function is to allow passage under the Sequillo River canal, ensuring flow control and the stability of the hydraulic structure at a particularly sensitive point along its course.
The structure comprises five segmental arches, meaning low arches that reduce the height without sacrificing load-bearing capacity. Each arch has an approximate span of 5.60 meters and a height of nearly 2.30 meters, resting on rounded intermediate piers that project beyond the wall face, reinforcing the overall stability. The aqueduct is approximately 37.30 meters long, 23 meters wide, and 7.40 meters high. It is constructed of limestone ashlar and complemented by stone parapets and wing walls; the foundation is made of cyclopean concrete. In this section, the riverbed is protected by gabions, an intervention that improves hydraulic stability.
