The Venta de Valdemudo was part of the support and service system of the Canal de Castilla in the Campos Branch, in the municipality of Becerril de Campos (Palencia), at kilometer point 80.250. Built between 1753 and 1757, this building served a dual function as a dwelling and warehouse, linked to the daily activity of the canal and the logistical needs of those who worked or traveled through this important hydraulic and territorial axis.
The complex was organized around a single-story, rectangular main building, approximately 24.20 meters long, 11.85 meters wide, and 3.50 meters high. It originally had a hipped roof, now gone, and a wooden structure. The walls were constructed of rammed earth reinforced with irregular ashlar buttresses and a limestone plinth—a simple and effective construction solution, consistent with its functional purpose and the architecture associated with the canal.
Today, the Venta de Valdemudo is in a state of ruin, the original building having disappeared. However, the building’s pre-existence is recognized and its outline is preserved, allowing for a historical understanding of the site.
For the visitor, this enclave offers an evocative experience, where the landscape of the canal and the memory of the building allow one to imagine the daily life associated with this great hydraulic work.
