Fuensaldaña

Fuensaldaña is located in the Pisuerga countryside, a few kilometers from the city of Valladolid, in a transitional territory between the cereal plain and the first foothills of the Torozos mountains.

The origins of the settlement date back to the Vaccaean period, and the construction of the first fortress is documented as early as the 12th century. The current Fuensaldaña Castle, built in the 15th century, is one of the most outstanding examples of the stately architecture of the so-called Valladolid School. Its imposing keep is a symbol of noble power and control of the territory. During the 20th century, it also served as the seat of the Cortes of Castile and León (Parliament).

The heritage is completed by the parish church of San Cipriano, of Gothic-Mudejar origin from the 13th century, and the monastery of the Trinitarians, founded by the counts of Fuensaldaña, which preserves the memory of an important artistic ensemble now dispersed.

Integrated into the Cigales Designation of Origin, Fuensaldaña maintains an identity closely linked to the culture of wine.
