This section of the Canal de Castilla runs for 8.6 kilometers between Olmos de Pisuerga and the Carrecalzada bridge, crossing the agricultural landscape of Palencia and Burgos. Along the route, several locks, aqueducts, and remains of old mills stand out, showcasing the canal’s historical economic importance. The itinerary combines comfortable sections with others affected by the proximity of roads or vegetation. The route allows for appreciation of both the heritage value of the hydraulic infrastructures and the natural beauty of the Pisuerga floodplain, offering a complete experience combining history, engineering, and rural landscape.

Practical information

From the exit until reaching Naveros, it is best to walk on the left bank and, at lock 13, switch to the right until reaching lock 14.
At lock 14, which is suitable for navigation, you can see a mini power plant and a lock keeper’s house. It is recommended to switch banks again here to walk on the left side.
Between lock 13 and lock 14 there are areas occupied by a local road
